Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: Computer graphics and multimodal interaction basic knowledge. Some knowledge in basic robotics and 3D printing would be good.

Presentation Language: English

Intended Audience: People with want to have some knowledge on multimodal interaction techniques and a broader know how on virtual humans and social robots. People interested in the link of social robotics and Virtual characters are welcome as well as how to build VH and social robots.

Organizer: Nadia Magnenat Thalmann ,NTU, Singapore and MIRALab, University of Geneva. Prof. Nadia Magnenat Thalmann is currently Professor and Director of the Institute for Media Innovation (IMI), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal The Visual Computer. Her research area is the modelling of Virtual Humans and Social Robots. She has received many artistic and scientific Awards, among them the 2012 Humboldt Research Award, and two Doctor honoris Causa (University of Hanover, Germany and University of Ottawa). She leads the team who recently developed the world known Social Robot Nadine.

Speaker(s):
Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, Nanyang Technological University, Universite de geneve
Daniel Thalmann, Nanyang Technological University

Summary: The course will mainly describe how to build and simulate behaviour for social robots and virtual humans. It will describe the recognition techniques, the memory as well as the emotions model and the generation of the reactions. Several case studies mainly with social robot Nadine will be presented.
